The big event will actually start on Friday morning for us, first with breakfast at Grandaddy’s BBQ at 8:30 am, then with an antenna party at the Thomas County EOC , with any remaining antenna and radio setup work continuing Saturday before the actual start of operating  at 2 pm. Don’t forget the chili dawg lunch on Saturday, reason enough to show up and help.

We will have five stations available to operate, so be sure to put some operating time on your schedule. Station captains are:

• GOTA – Dewey – KI4RGD
• Phone 1 – 80 and 20, Gina – W4GNA
• Phone 2 – 40 and 15, Lowell NY4D
• CW – Terry – N0TW
• Digital – Mike KE4FGF

Contact any of the above for more info on the event. Operators are needed, especially for Sunday and Saturday late. A problem every year is that operators all show up at the same time, 2 pm Saturday. So be sure to spread it out a bit  if you want to operate. And please, let’s see more than the usual volunteers show up for the antenna parties. Especially we need people for antenna take down, which is Sunday, 2pm.

Lets hope the propagation Gods smile on band conditions. But if not, please don’t forget that this is still a social event. Saturday supper, around 6:30,  is planned with plenty of good bbq’d chicken provided by the club. Plan to bring your favorite side dish or dessert to round out (pun intended) the meal.

Saturday there are going to be a couple of classes, one on PL-259 installation, another from KJ4GOJ on weather-spotting. Tentative schedule is 10 am pl-259 class and 11 am for the weather spotting class.  Then we have the noon chili dog lunch. A test session is also planned, at 1 pm, for anyone wanting a new license or to upgrade. Please watch your email for further details.

There will be a talk-in station active on 147.06, starting around lunchtime Saturday. We’re looking forward to seeing you at Field Day. Please come and participate!

The next Amateur Radio Testing Session will be held at the Thomasville Public Library, Saturday June 19 at 10:00 a.m. Test takers need to bring $14 and a picture ID.

And be sure to join some of the VE team and other club members for breakfast at the Plaza Restaurant before the session at 8:30 a.m.

Saturday, June 5 is the date of our next meeting. The time is 7:30 pm and the location is the Plaza Restaurant in downtown Thomasville. If you’re so inclined, come early (6:00 pm or so) for your evening meal and some great socializing.

Topics are sure to include last minute Field Day plans. It’s coming sooner than you think.

As always, all are welcome to attend. Bring friends and family. Membership is not required!
