The Southwest Georgia ARES Net was called into action Wednesday, February 9th at 9:00 AM in support of the Georgia Statewide Tornado Drill. The National Weather Service office in Tallahassee, Florida issued a Tornado Warning for all counties in the Southwest Georgia District as a drill for emergency procedures. There was excellent participation from ARES and SKYWARN members from across the region with participating stations from 7 counties from both Georgia and Florida. Thank you to all those that participated in order to make this drill a success!
During severe weather conditions the Southwest Georgia ARES Net could be called into action as a means for relaying storm reports to the National Weather Service as well as keeping ARES and SKYWARN members informed of all weather statements issued by the National Weather Service. Severe weather threats will be tracked on local radar and potential treating storm positions can be relayed to stations monitoring the net as they develop.
