Madison County ARES had their first “Mini-Field Day,” coordinated by Gina McCulley, W4GNA.
The event was held in Blair Park just west of Lee, Florida off of U.S. Highway 90. The scenario was no electricity, no telephones and no communications capabilities. A generator, batteries, antennas, mounts, coax and radios were brought to the park and set up to test our ability call out for assistance.
Contact was made with hams in Tallahassee, Live Oak, and Lake City. We heard hams in England, Germany, and Italy quite well but because of antenna limitations they did not hear us.
We learned a lot and plan to do this again. It is great to have the support of Madison County Emergency Management and we certainly support their efforts.
