2014 Hamfest

It’s now over but in spite of the rain the Hamfest was a success. The big winners were Richard WA4BDU who won the FT-60 and Ken WD4ERM who won the FT-7900.

Andy NX4AC stepped up and handled the ticket sales, Kyle KK4LIJ kept the kids lounge was busy, and the concession stand was busy.

Thanks to all who attended to make the most of it.

Welcome to Thomasville Amateur Radio Club’s Annual Hamfest & Tailgate page.  The date for the 2014 Hamfest is confirmed as being March 29th, the time is 8:00 am, and the location is the same as the last three years, Morningside Methodist Church at the corner of Pinetree Blvd and Smith Avenue (aka Hwy 84) on the east side of Thomasville, GA just off the US 19 exit. See the map below.

The event will be held rain or shine. Admission and tailgating is always free. There will be plenty of room for outdoor tailgating under the shade trees and if you want an indoor table there is a nominal fee of $5.00 per table.

We’ll also have plenty to eat, so come hungry. Our Georgia Section Manager will have an ARRL booth, we’ll have VE test sessions at 10 am the morning of the hamfest, we’ll have a kids lounge, and we’ll be cooking up some other events as we get nearer to the hamfest date.

We’ll have prizes and drawings hourly, starting at 9 am. Tickets are $1.00 each and can be gotten at the event or in advance from the club. The Grand Prizes are yet to be determined for 2014, but they will be along the lines of last years prizes of a Yaesu FT-7900R 2m/440 FM transceiver and an FT-60R 2m/440 HT. You won’t need to be present to win either of the top two prizes.

For boneyard items - if you are looking to “try before you buy” we will have a power supply and antenna available for both HF and VHF/UHF.

If you need more information please contact John, KE4RWR, at jswicord@bellsouth.net . If you’ve previously contacted Mike KE4FGF we regret that due to his untimely passing we do not have records of your communication, so please contact John for info.

Talk-in will be on the 147.195 repeater: 141.3 tone and positive offset.

Please put this event on your calendar. Check back often for current information, as we’ll be updating the page more often with news and information as we get closer to the event.

  2. Hello. Does the $5 fee for a table apply if we tailgate? If so, must it be paid prior to the event? We are bringing several pieces of gear from Joe Woody’s shack who is now silent key. I see you have HF antenna and a power supply but assume we need to bring an HF rig if we are to test the Ameritron amplifier for a possible buyer. Thank you and e hope for good weather next weekend. 73!

  3. Hi Craig,

Tailgate is free. Table fee is for inside tables. Hope to see you there.

  4. I sure hope it’s not too late to reserve a table. I asked about the parking lot but forgot to ask about reserving a table. My self and Paul,(N5PS) will be bringing a good bit of WG4JOE-Joe Woody’s, (Silent Key), gear down to help his wife sell as much as we can. Please advise if a table is open for us. I can be reached at 229-881-5196. Thanks and 73! Hope to see you there.

  5. Craig, I’m sure they can make one available to you, just try and get in early. Contact John Ke4rwr@arrl.net if he hasn’t already responded. I forwarded this to him.
